Legacy Partnership Flourishes at Ainsdale Event

Posted on

The afternoon tea event, hosted at St John’s Church in Ainsdale, included presentations from a Christian Aid Legacy Specialist, the Diocese of Liverpool and St John’s Ainsdale. They shared both information and inspiration about how leaving a gift in your will, no matter the size, to;
• your family
• your Church family
• your Global family
can make a huge impact on the people you care most about, and the causes close to your heart. We heard stories about wonderful people whose gifts have enabled ministry activities like Youth Work, restored or renovated church buildings and relieved burdens on struggling families. Christian Aid also presented about the impact legacies have on their charitable work across the world.

Among those who attended were some treasurers and churchwardens from the local area who enjoyed the event, and went away more informed and confident about talking about legacy giving in their church.

“We arrived knowing some pieces of the puzzle, and we’re leaving with the full picture. We’re going to run our own legacy event like this in our church!”

“I’ve already written my will, but now I’m going away to amend it.”

How can my church benefit?

Vicky Sime is our Legacy Officer in the Resources Team, and can support you in nurturing the legacy conversation in your church. Take a look at the checklist below and see how you can get started.

o We have started a conversation with our PCC about legacy giving and have a strategy for going forward and speaking about legacy giving to our church.
o We talk carefully and sensitively about legacy giving to our church as both and act of wise and loving stewardship, and a natural part of generous discipleship.
o We have legacy literature (flyers, booklets etc) available to our congregation with details of who they can speak to about leaving a gift
o We have a Legacy Officer who is our point of contact at church for legacy information.
o We have a simple PCC Legacy Policy for how we will use any unrestricted legacies left to the church.

A huge thank you to our speaker from Christian Aid, Kathy Childress, and Church Engagement Officer, Zoe Abernathy, for their encouragement and support in making the event happen. And to Eirlys Jessop, Revd Jackie Vasquez and the volunteers at St John’s Ainsdale for enabling the event to take place, and sharing their stories.
