The Diocese of Liverpool has appointed Rev’d Jane Morgan MBE as its new Dean of Women’s Ministry.
Jane said she was “thrilled” to have been offered the role by The Rt Revd Ruth Worsley, Interim Bishop of Liverpool, and feels blessed to have been called to serve women across the Diocese.
Dean of Women’s Ministry
As Dean of Women’s Ministry, Jane will work to promote gender equality and advocate for women in ordained ministry, helping them to flourish in their roles. She will also support and connect lay women’s ministry across the Diocese and engage with the national agenda through organisations including the National Association of Deans and Advisers in Women’s Ministry (NADOWM) and Women and the Church (WATCH).
A key part of Jane’s role will be creating opportunities for clergy women to come together, build community and share their experiences. She will work to establish a supportive network offering a safe space for ordained women to listen, encourage one another, access resources and identify appropriate support.
Bishop Ruth welcomes Rev’d Jane
“I am delighted that Jane has agreed to take up this role. In her life before ordination she has a proven track record of supporting women in some of the most difficult experiences of life and in helping them grow into leadership. These strengths will help us as a diocese as we look to the flourishing of women in their ministries, both lay and ordained, in serving God and the Church.”
Work across the Diocese
Jane will also encourage women to take up representative roles within diocesan and national structures, promote Strategic Leadership Programmes and listen to the challenges women are facing across the Diocese.
Jane brings extensive experience to the role, having served in a variety of ordained ministry positions, including as a hospice chaplain, interim priest, parish priest and assistant priest. She is also Assistant Priest at St Peter’s, Formby.
Before ordination, Jane worked as a midwife, holding senior roles in education, research, safeguarding and management. Her career has focused strongly on advocacy and supporting women to use their voices.
