The Diocese of Liverpool is delighted to welcome Canon Jeremy Duff as the new Dean of Emmanuel Theological College.
Jeremy joins Emmanuel from St Padarn’s Institute in Cardiff, where he has served as Principal, transforming leadership training and ministerial development across the Church in Wales. He will take up his new role on 1 September, 2026.
His appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Emmanuel as it continues its mission of forming and equipping clergy, ministers and lay leaders to serve churches and communities across the six dioceses that founded the college.
A familiar face returning to the North West
Jeremy brings a wealth of experience in parish ministry, theological education and church leadership. Before ordination, he served in the Army before studying at the University of Cambridge and completing a PhD in New Testament at the University of Oxford.
He is no stranger to the Diocese of Liverpool. Jeremy has served in urban parishes in Toxteth and Widnes, been on the staff of Wycliffe Hall, worked as a school chaplain, and was later appointed Residentiary Canon at Liverpool Cathedral.
A North West man through and through, Jeremy is passionate about the region and the Church’s mission within it. He believes deeply in the importance of a strong theological college that can equip the diverse clergy, ministers and leaders who will serve communities across the North West.
A Few Words From Jeremy Duff
Reflecting on his appointment, Jeremy said:
“I am delighted to be appointed to the role of Dean of Emmanuel Theological College. Across the North West, day in day out, churches, chaplaincies, church schools, fresh expressions and cathedrals are doing a brilliant job in sharing the love of Jesus in their communities. Emmanuel has a joyful but weighty calling to form, equip and support the development of the diverse clergy, ministers and leaders to serve and empower that work. It is an immense privilege to be invited to lead this work, back in the region which I so deeply love.”
