If you feel you are being called to be a Reader in our diocese we have the information for you
Thank you for considering Reader ministry
The office of Reader has for many years been the life of the Church of England.
If you feel called and are selected to be a Reader you will join more than 200 Readers in our diocese who faithfully serve their local church.
A Reader is a lay minister who holds a Bishop’s licence to help proclaim the Gospel in the words they preach and the way they live their life. Most are licenced to a specific parish but there is great scope for flexibility. Readers are more than volunteers – with the Bishop’s licence comes a commitment to training preparation and on-going development. A Reader’s preaching and teaching ministry will often make them the bridge between the church and the secular world. It is a privilege, joy and responsibility to be a Reader under the authority of Jesus Christ.
To be a Reader you must be a communicant member of the Church of England and be called and committed to offering a teaching and preaching ministry within the church.
