St James in the City marks 250 years of worship, witness and community

Posted on

This June, St James in the City is celebrating a remarkable milestone – 250 years since the church building first opened its doors.

Over one special weekend, we’ll come together to give thanks for all that God has done, reconnect with those who have been part of our journey, and look ahead to how our ministry and building can continue to serve future generations.

Whether you’re a current member of St James, a former attendee, or someone connected to the story of this church in any way, you are warmly invited to take part.

Here’s what’s happening:

Friday 6 June, 5–7pm
Drop in for an exhibition exploring the history of the church and its place in the life of the city.

Saturday 7 June, 6.30–9.30pm
Join us for an evening of storytelling and celebration – a chance to hear and share memories and give thanks for the journey so far.

Sunday 8 June – Pentecost Sunday
Our 10.30am and 4pm services will mark the 250th anniversary, as we reflect on the past and look with hope to the future. This date also falls close to the original launch of the church, making it a fitting moment to gather in worship.

We’d love you to be part of this significant moment in the life of St James.
