We are excited to continue the Net Zero Quick Wins initiative in 2025, funded by the Church Commissioners. This programme helps churches take practical steps towards achieving net zero emissions by supporting small but impactful changes like LED lighting, zoned heating, and draught-proofing.
Through a competitive bidding process, the Diocese has awarded grants of up to £5,000 to help churches implement these energy-saving improvements. To qualify, churches must:
- Be members of the EcoChurch programme
- Be signed up to the Diocese Net Zero Programme
- Commit to completing the Energy Footprint Tool (EFT)
So far, ten churches have received funding, with three already completing their projects. These small improvements are making a big difference in reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainability across our Diocese.
Churches Leading the Way in Sustainability
Christ Church Norris Green
As a Silver EcoChurch, Christ Church Norris Green has prioritised sustainability. With funding from Net Zero Quick Wins, they have installed LED lighting with sensor controls in their busy community centre. This reduces energy consumption, lowers bills, and creates a more welcoming environment for community gatherings.
St Luke’s, Crosby
St Luke’s has taken an important step towards Net Zero by installing infrared radiant heaters in their Parish Centre, replacing outdated storage heaters. This energy-efficient solution is expected to save around 400kg of CO2 per year while cutting costs and improving comfort.
St Gabriel’s, Huyton
St Gabriel’s has converted all lighting across their site to LED, completing their energy-saving transition. By working with their supplier, they have reduced lighting energy usage by up to 60%, lowering costs and emissions.
Join the Net Zero Journey
These churches are proving that small upgrades can make a big impact. If your church wants to take part in Net Zero Quick Wins, ensure you have submitted your Energy Footprint Tool (EFT) to track energy use and emissions. To learn more about the EFT click here.
