The Lifecall team is excited to announce that a new Directions course will start in September.
We spoke to some recent attendees about what they gained from completing the course. This week Gary shares his experience:
Your background
I became a Christian at the age of 29. I was at a particularly low point in my life so was very pleased when a friend who was a Christian at a local evangelical church invited me to a week-long conference on Spiritual Warfare in Brighton. Whilst there I was blessed by a direct encounter with the Holy Spirit. One week after the conference I started going out with Fran who also attended church, and two years later we were married. We have just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary.
Why did you decide to take part in the Directions course?
I wanted to learn where I could best serve God in Wigan and hoped that Directions would give me some insights into options I was not aware of.
What have you gained from completing the Directions course?
As a result of the Directions course I have met some wonderful people who have shared something of their own journeys and have given me feedback. I enjoyed working together in the group sessions and experienced some of the challenges and benefits of collaborative working. I also learned more about the missional opportunities available.
Would you recommend the Directions course and why?
I would recommend the Directions course. It has helped clarify my own thinking. I have followed up by taking two more short courses, one on Worship leading and another on Preaching. There are two areas of ministry that I want to continue to explore, the possibility of Reader training and/or work with the homeless.
