Following last year’s Bishop’s Council decision and a due period of consultation Bishop John has signed a Bishop’s Pastoral Order which
- dissolves the archdeaconry of Wigan and West Lancs
- transfers Ormskirk deanery to Knowsley and Sefton archdeaconry
- transfers Wigan deanery to St Helens and Warrington archdeaconry.
The order came in into effect on November 1st.
Bishop John said “Our experience over the last few years has shown that our three Archdeacons can effectively support the mission and ministry of parishes across our diocese. With the additional support of their Associate Archdeacons we have a strong, committed and focused team. Formalising this into three Archdeaconries enables us to move forward together as we meet the challenges of Fit for Mission and the requirements of the bid. I thank God for our Archdeacons and associates and pray for all parishes in these new arrangements.”
