An Eco Church Update

Posted on

We’re delighted to share the latest Eco Church statistics for the Diocese of Liverpool.

As of November 2025, 137 churches across our diocese are now registered with Eco Church – that’s a whopping 53% of all our churches! We’re incredibly encouraged to see over half of our churches committed to the journey towards Net Zero.

We are also proud to celebrate our 3 Gold Award churches, recognised for leading the way in environmental stewardship across all five key areas: Worship and Teaching, Buildings and Energy, Land and Nature, Community and Global Engagement, and Lifestyle. These churches have shown what’s possible from switching to renewable energy and creating wildlife-friendly churchyards, to weaving environmental themes into worship and reducing carbon footprints.

Alongside our gold eco churches, we now have 25 Silver Award and 34 Bronze Award churches, each making remarkable progress and inspiring others to act for the environment and future generations.

Every action, no matter how small, helps build a greener and more sustainable future – one where our church communities can continue to flourish for generations to come.

Why You Should Join Us

Every church that signs up is affirming that caring for creation is central to our Christian faith. By registering with the Eco Church programme and committing to the Net Zero Carbon 2030 journey, your church becomes part of a growing diocesan movement visibly living out the fifth Mark of Mission:

“To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth.”

Joining Eco Church connects you with tailored support, specialist guidance and a network of fellow parishes on the same path. It means access to practical tools such as the Energy Footprint Tool to measure your energy use, advice on reducing your building’s carbon footprint, and resources to help weave environmental care into worship, teaching, community life and land management.

When we act together, we can make a real, greener difference – not just for now but for the future – for the generations of worshipers and parishioners to come.
