Last week, the Diocese of Liverpool’s Net Zero team joined together with Christ Our Hope Liverpool (COHL) and Faiths4Change to host a thought-provoking Eco Climate Event, bringing together eco leads and church representatives from across the Larger Single Parish of COHL and from further across the diocese to explore how faith communities can play their part in caring for creation.
Held at Christ Our Hope Liverpool – the only area in the Diocese to have two Gold Eco Churches – the event offered a perfect setting for an inspiring day of learning and development. The event was made possible through the Justice portfolio within COHL’s Fit for Mission structure, which has created opportunities to share knowledge and resources more effectively across the Larger Single Parish.
Throughout the day, attendees explored a range of interactive stalls and workshops designed to make environmental action practical, engaging, and achievable for all. From discovering climate solutions through the use of Lego to hearing from Christian Aid about tackling climate justice, and even learning creative yet sustainable approaches to Christmas celebrations, there was something for everyone to take away and share with their church.
Workshops covered topics such as:
- Local eco-initiatives and sustainable worship
- Climate action projects making a real difference
- Faith-based environmental efforts
- Eco-friendly products and services
- Practical ways to care for creation while saving money
Eco representatives described the event as “eye-opening and inspiring”, saying it gave them new ideas and connections to bring back to their churches. Many participants left feeling motivated and enthusiastic to take further action, both in their church communities and in their personal lives.
There is now widespread enthusiasm for making the Eco Climate Event an annual fixture in the diocesan calendar, providing a space for parishioners, church leaders, and clergy to come together to share ideas and celebrate each other’s progress toward net zero.
This event showed that small changes can have a big impact when we work together across the Diocese of Liverpool.
Together, we can make our churches more sustainable places of worship places for generations.
