Building a Diocese of Hope, Healing and Justice
In the Diocese of Liverpool, we are united in our faith-driven commitment to racial justice, equity, and inclusion, recognising our role in healing and reconciliation. Inspired by the Church of England’s 2021 report From Lament to Action and the work of the Archbishops Commission on Racial Justice we have committed to actionable steps in our parishes and schools.
In response we have developed a local strategy, “From Repentance to Repair,” a framework to support cultural and structural change for a more equitable future for all people, and holding ourselves accountable for measurable progress.
We are committed to championing our belief that all people are wonderfully and fearfully created in the image of God and are of equal worth. Join us as we celebrate the richness of our diverse worshipping communities, working together so that more people come to know Jesus and we see more justice in the world.
Our Mission in Action
The Fourth Mark of Mission invites us all “to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind, and pursue peace and reconciliation”. Working together for racial justice in our parishes and schools is one of the ways that we live out this missional calling.
We acknowledge with remorse that the Church has, at times, demonstrated racist policies and behaviours that have maintained racial inequality and excluded people from fully experiencing God’s love within our community. This painful history calls us to repentance, and compels us to actively engage in repairing the relationships in our communities.
Our Diocese is deeply committed to racial justice, equity, and inclusion, recognising that our faith calls us to pursue justice and dignity for all.
A Call to Prayer
God of justice
In your wisdom, you created all people in your image.
Give us grace to recognise the dignity in each other.
Strengthen us to seek justice, show mercy, and walk humbly with you.
Unite us in love and courage to overcome racism,
That we may live as a people of peace, hope, and healing.
Amen.
Join us in prayer, learning, and transformative action as we live out this mission for a just and reconciled church.
