Are you wondering what God might be calling you to next?
The Directions course is a six-week journey for anyone across the Diocese of Liverpool who wants to explore their Christian calling. Whether you’re just beginning to think about what it means to follow Christ, or you’re seeking clarity on how you can serve, this course offers space, structure, and support for your discernment.
Together, we’ll explore the big questions:
- Who is called?
- Why are we called?
- How can we tell when God is calling us?
Rooted in prayer, scripture, and shared experience, each session includes worship, engaging teaching, group conversation, and reflection. You’ll gain insight into Christian discipleship, gifts and ministry, and what it means to live out your faith in the Church and the community.
A highlight of the course is the opportunity for a one-to-one conversation with one of our trained Vocational Coaches, offering you personal support as you reflect on where God might be leading you next.
Led by a range of experienced voices and supported throughout by our Vocations Co-ordinator, the Directions course is about helping you grow in confidence and faith as you seek your next step with God.
The Directions Course has been running annually for over a decade in the Diocese of Liverpool. The course runs for 6 Thursday evenings at St Andrews Church, Clubmoor from 18th September.
For some that means confidence to embrace their current commitments with a fresh God-envisioned direction; for some it is a nudge to start exploring a specific role in church ministry, mission or leadership; for others, it’s a step-change moment to explore something completely new perhaps a new job, missioned activity or justice initiative.
People who’ve attended the course previously have described the Directions Course as “interesting” “insightful” and “inspiring”
David who attended the course in 2023 described it as
“a nice way to engage with like minded people to talk freely and openly about things that matter deeply to you.”
For David, developing this close bond with like minded people on the course was a key part of it as not only was the course eye opening and inspiring but it also created an offline environment where this group could now engage and interact with one another outside of the course so they could continue their learning and interest further as one. David also took a keen interest in further issues which the diocese also run allowing for him and others to continue their more focused interests further allowing them to develop their knowledge further which can assist them deeper in church life.
David would urge anyone to do this course not only for the great people you’ll meet whilst doing it, but it’ll also assist you greatly and open your mind up to new things.
Commenting on the support from the relevant teams at Saint James House, he said hearing from all the different people who run the course, you get a perspective from all different people so its great to hear from multiple people leading the course.
Norma who also attended the course in 2022 described it as:
” I loved spending time with like minded people. The team who run it are absolutely amazing people. They will help you learn and give you advice.”
For Norma, she truly loved and resonated with the course and spending time in Liverpool to do it. She found the support from the team truly world class and said “if you ever had any further questions, you could always pick up the phone and ask them, they were really approachable.”
Peter attended the Directions Course in 2022 and described it as:
“Extremely informative and a great atmosphere where you can discern. There was absolutely no pressure on you.”
Over the last decade, people from all walks of life have taken part in Directions and stepped into new and exciting paths in their discipleship. There’s no set outcome, just the invitation to explore where God might be calling you.
