Reflection on Bishop Ruth’s Official Welcome

Posted on

On Saturday 3rd May, Liverpool Cathedral was filled with joy and a deep sense of purpose as we officially welcomed the Rt Revd Ruth Worsley as the Interim Bishop of Liverpool. The service marked a significant and hopeful moment for the Diocese of Liverpool, as hundreds of people gathered to witness and celebrate the beginning of this new chapter in our diocesan life.

We were honoured to be joined by the Archbishop of York, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Stephen Cottrell, who preached a powerful and moving sermon. His words reminded us of the strength found in unity, the necessity of prayer, and the enduring hope we hold as a Church moving forward together.

During the service, Bishop Ruth shared her reflections on taking up this new role:

What an honour it is to be officially welcomed as Interim Bishop of Liverpool and to continue the work I’ve already begun. I’m really looking forward to touring the diocese and meeting so many of our clergy and congregations.

The welcome service was a time of celebration, commitment and shared vision. It also offered an opportunity to pray for Bishop Ruth as she leads us in the months ahead, providing guidance and pastoral care during this transitional season.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who came along to support Bishop Ruth, both in person and in prayer, and to all those who worked behind the scenes to make the day such a memorable occasion.
