The Diocese of Liverpool is asking God for a bigger church to make a bigger difference with more people knowing Jesus and more justice in the world.
Our first bishop, J.C. Ryle, wanted every person, lay or ordained, who was then ‘sleeping’ to become ‘active agents’ of the Church. We have wrestled with that question ever since.
To answer the question ‘what does it mean for an individual to become an active agent of its mission’ the Diocese of Liverpool adopted the Rule of Life. Based on an inner journey of pray, read, learn and an outer journey of tell, serve, give the Rule of Life enables each person to take responsibility for their own discipleship journey.
The Fit for Mission programme is intended to help those parishes who have entered it to become active agents of the Diocese’s mission. We do this by
• introducing people to Jesus,
• deepening discipleship,
• developing Christian leaders, and
• working for justice.
We are now developing a bold, ambitious plan to enable the whole of our diocese to become active agents in God’s mission. A plan that will see us all parishes working together to build an attractive church, younger and more diverse, for this and the next generation; a strong, vibrant, confident Christian presence in every community. A plan built around larger single parishes resourcing and supporting Anglican worshipping communities in their area.
