Course Outline

In this two-hour training session, delivered by the Safeguarding Team, you will gain an understanding of what a Parish Safeguarding Officer does.

You will be equipped with all the tools you will need to carry out this role successfully. This training is part of the Safeguarding Learning and Development Framework and covers key working safeguarding practices and relationships.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the role, responsibilities, and key working relationships of the Parish Safeguarding Officer; including the Local Authority, Diocesan Safeguarding Officer (DSO) and Parochial Church Council (PCC).
  • Identify ways you can raise awareness and improve safeguarding practice.
  • Evaluate the safeguarding information reported by members of the church or community and work out an appropriate response.
  • Complete an Archdeacons Parish Safeguarding Checklist to help evaluate how safeguarding is being managed in your context.

You will also be required to have read the participants workbook and complete the preparation task: the workbook will be sent to you once you have registered to attend.
