On Sunday, 1st March, at St Philip & St Paul with Wesley, Southport as eight candidates were confirmed during a special morning service.
Bishop Ruth Worsley joined the congregation to lead the Confirmation alongside the church’s Methodist Minister, Chris Humble. As a growing Methodist-Anglican congregation, St Philip & St Paul with Wesley reflects a strong partnership between the two traditions. In the Methodist Church, it is the Minister who confirms; in this united context, both the Bishop and the Methodist Minister confirmed the candidates together.
Those confirmed were Ann, Barry, Violet, Joe, Carly, Chrissy, Lizzy and Sophie, ranging in age from 12 to 70. Each candidate came from a different stage of life and faith, yet all shared a desire to publicly affirm their commitment and take this important step in their Christian journey.
Through Confirmation in this joint setting, the candidates become members of both the Church of England and the Methodist Church – highlighting the shared journey and mission between Methodists and the Church of England.
It was a joyous morning in Southport as many friends, family and the wider congregation gathered to share this special moment with the eight confirmed on Sunday morning.
