Thank you to everyone who attended the 12th Annual Micah Lecture at Liverpool Cathedral, where we were delighted to welcome Jenny Sinclair, Founder and Director of Together for the Common Good.
In a powerful and thought-provoking address, Jenny explored how the Church must respond to the deepening challenges of poverty and social fragmentation in our communities. Drawing on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, she invited us to reflect on the true vocation of the Church in today’s world.
Jenny offered a compelling call to action: to move beyond charity and towards solidarity. True Christian justice, she said, asks more of us than simply feeling compassion, it requires that we walk alongside others in shared struggle and hope.
Throughout the lecture, Jenny challenged churches to read the signs of the times with clarity and courage, and to reclaim the Church’s prophetic role – a role that involves embodying love, nurturing relationships, and standing in solidarity with communities affected by injustice.
She also spoke of the need for a renewed Christian imagination: one shaped by discernment, reciprocity, and an openness to listening, both to the Spirit and to our neighbours.
“Small is good,” she reminded us. In an age that often values scale over substance, Jenny encouraged us to begin with what we have and where we are, taking small but faithful steps to build communities of hope.
Jenny ended her powerful lecture with a Q&A with guests who attended the lecture adding more deep and interesting topics to an already thought provoking lecture.
We are grateful to Jenny for her inspiring contribution to this year’s Micah Lecture, and to all who attended and took part in the evening.
