St Peter’s Church is praying for a new vicar who will join us in bringing the gospel of God’s love and redemption to the people of Parr, situated in the deanery of St Helens in the diocese of Liverpool.  St Helens lies mid-way between Liverpool and Manchester and is surrounded by two major roads – the A58 and the A580, along with the motorways M6, M62 and M57, giving good links to two international airports, several universities and teaching hospitals.

We are an evangelical church with an outreach ministry to people of all ages and stages in our low-income community.  Our regular activities include a toddler group, coffee mornings, free hot refreshments, and we have good links with local schools and care homes.

Our beautifully re-ordered church building is a focal point for local heritage interest, as well as a flexible space.  Our worship is structured without being overly informal – we do, however, robe for communion and pastoral services.

We are looking for a vicar who will:

  • Work alongside us, to develop and direct the gifts of the whole congregation, and deepen our Christian discipleship;
  • Be a catalyst for our mission to the community, interested in people of all-ages, and able to nurture growth in our church.
  • Offer pastoral ministry within the church family

We can offer you:

  • A small team of dedicated church members who all play our part in the mission and ministry of our church;
  • An ethos motivated by the compassion and love of Jesus where all are welcome, and where we go the extra mile to serve the needs of our community.
  • EITHER a 4-bedroom vicarage (House for Duty), OR 0.4 stipend, each equivalent to 2.5 days per week, including Sundays.

Closing date: 29th June 2025.

We are looking to appoint a priest to join the team looking after these four parishes: St James with St Matthews, St John’s Ravenhead, St Luke’s Eccleston and St Mark’s North Road. You will minister alongside a full-time stipendiary colleague and you will offer focal ministry in two of these parishes.

St James with St Matthew’s, St John’s and St Luke’s are the Eccleston team and have a good history of closer collaboration: St Mark’s is new to the grouping but we envisage it working effectively as part of the team.

All four churches are broadly evangelical in character, but with different characters and senses of identity, and serving different communities in the north and east of the town of St Helens.

This is a full-time permanent stipendiary post. Housing is provided. in St James Vicarage, 159a St Helens Road, Eccleston Park L34 2QB, a comfortable family-sized home next to St James church.

Closing date: 22nd June 2025.

Liverpool Diocese shares the Church of England’s ambition to grow a church that is younger and more diverse. An investment by the National Church now enables Liverpool Diocese to form Youth and Children’s Hubs in every deanery. It is a very exciting opportunity. From a low base, our objective is to see significant growth in the number of children and young people encountering Jesus, becoming embedded in a discipleship journey in church communities, and going on to explore their vocation, including ministry leadership in some capacity.

A Youth and Children’s Hub is a new concept which seeks to create a joined up, supported plan in deaneries to ensure that there is opportunity for children, young people and their families to access discipleship, worship and faith communities in a range of styles, places and times, it is not based on just one specific location or building. This Hub will provide opportunity for all of the churches in St Helens Deanery to be part of the planning and delivery to ensure there are engagement opportunities in reach of every child and young person in the area. The Hub will be delivered through the structures of the Larger Single Parish in St Helens – Church St Helens which is made up of 11 churches.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead on the missional and discipleship Hub strategy, which is in its early stages of development, in line with the outcomes and aims of the grant funding. For an understanding of the initial agreed framework for the Hub in St Helens please see the attached one-page diagram, from which this role will prepare detailed plans and ensure delivery.
  • Plan, develop lead and grow the Youth and Children’s Hub, which is fostered in a culture of prayer, accountability and fun.
  • Enable the creation of opportunities for children and young people to explore and experience the Christian faith in a range of traditions and styles whilst growing and developing personally, socially, spiritually and emotionally.
