SUMMARY:BREATHE
DESCRIPTION:Parenting neurodivergent children can be wonderful. It can also be isolating and exhausting – filled with doubts\, fears and unanswered questions. Many parents and carers long for a supportive community\, yet the demands of family life can make it difficult to participate in church in the way they would like. \nFrom toddlers to adult children\, additional needs can sometimes leave families feeling on the outside. Home life may feel tense or unpredictable. It can be painful watching other children reach milestones easily\, while your own faces challenges that are hard to explain to others. At times\, there is a deep longing sense to pause and breathe. At other times\, there is a profound joy that is difficult to put into words or share. \nBREATHE was created out of this shared experience. The leaders\, who had not previously met\, came together through their parallel journeys of parenting neurodivergent children. They recognise that their hearts can feel heavy\, that prayers do not always seem to be answered in the way they had hoped for\, and that they\, like their children\, do not always feel that they quite fit in. Together\, they have created a space to encounter God in a new and gentle way. \nBREATHE is a 30-minute online oasis held via Zoom. It offers a simple structure of silence\, music\, liturgy and spoken reflections\, shared alongside others who understand these experiences. During the call\, participants remain muted (with cameras on or off as optional)\, and are guided through a calm and thoughtful time designed to offer gentle encouragement\, draw attention to the love of God\, and most importantly\, provide space to breathe. \nThose who have joined previously\, describe BREATHE as “a sanctuary\, a safe space shared with others who truly understand.“ \nThe vision for BREATHE grew from one leader’s experience of raising autistic children\, who are now young men in their twenties. Being part of church life during their early years was challenging\, and without a strong foundation of faith\, it might have felt impossible to remain. Many families in similar situations have found church life too painful or difficult to continue. \nOver time\, and through many unexpected turns\, including a call to ordained ministry\, the desire to create something supportive for others on this journey continued to grow. The development of online gatherings during Covid made this possible. After praying for a team to share the vision\, the BREATHE NW Community was formed. \nBREATHE takes place on the last Sunday of each month at 8:30 – 9:00pm. Parents and carers are warmly invited to come exactly as they are\, and simply breathe. \nTo join the call on the final Sunday of each month\, please email Rev Rachel Bray and the team on breathecommunitynw@gmail.com  \n

SUMMARY:The Silence is Over: Bereavement Education for Schools and Young People
DESCRIPTION:Let’s break the silence around grief and learn how to support young people through tough times together.\n\n\n\nThe Good Funeral Company\, in partnership with the Education Team at Liverpool Diocese\, invites schools\, charities\, youth services\, support organisations and community groups to attend and exhibit at a landmark conference exploring how we support children and young people through bereavement. \nFrom September 2026\, the UK Government will introduce death\, dying and bereavement education into the national curriculum\, recognising the importance of preparing young people to understand and navigate grief. \nThis conference will bring together educators\, bereavement specialists\, charities and community organisations to explore how schools and support settings can respond to this important change\, ensuring children and young people are supported with compassion\, understanding and practical resources. \nThe event will take place in the unique setting of Liverpool Cathedral\, offering a space for conversation\, learning and collaboration around one of life’s most universal experiences. \nWhy This Conference Matters \nBereavement is a reality many young people face during their education. \nResearch shows: \n\nA parent of children under 18 dies every 20 minutes in the UK\n127 children are newly bereaved every day\nBy age 16\, 1 in 20 young people will have experienced the death of a parent\n\nDespite this\, many teachers report feeling unprepared to support bereaved pupils. \nThis conference aims to: \n• Support schools preparing for the 2026 curriculum change\n• Provide practical tools for discussing death and grief with children\n• Connect educators with specialist organisations and charities\n• Share lived experiences and best practice from experts in bereavement support\n• Create partnerships between education\, funeral professionals and support organisations \nThe day will feature expert speakers sharing knowledge\, research and lived experience in supporting bereaved children. \nJohn Adams \nFuneral Director\, Funeral Industry Advisor to Child Bereavement UK\, Past President\, National Association of Funeral Directors \nJohn led the national campaign that helped secure the inclusion of bereavement education in the school curriculum. His talk will explore the journey behind the campaign and why grief literacy is vital for young people. \nChild Bereavement UK \nThis session will focus on supporting secondary school pupils and young people up to the age of 25\, including practical approaches for schools\, youth services and educators supporting grieving teenagers and young adults. \nLisa Davies \nFounder\, Anthony Davies Bereavement Charity \nLisa will share her personal story following the death of her husband and the impact this had on her young family. Her session will focus on supporting primary-aged children and those under five\, helping educators understand how very young children process grief. \nExhibitor & Resource Space \nAlongside the conference talks\, there will be an exhibition area where organisations can showcase services\, resources and support available to schools and families. \nWe particularly welcome exhibitors offering: \n\nBereavement support services\nEducational resources and training\nCounselling and mental health support\nCharitable support for bereaved families\nFaith-based pastoral care\nResources for teachers and youth workers\n\nThis space will provide an opportunity for schools and organisations to connect\, collaborate and build partnerships that support young people experiencing grief.
