SUMMARY:BREATHE
DESCRIPTION:Parenting neurodivergent children can be wonderful. It can also be isolating and exhausting – filled with doubts\, fears and unanswered questions. Many parents and carers long for a supportive community\, yet the demands of family life can make it difficult to participate in church in the way they would like. \nFrom toddlers to adult children\, additional needs can sometimes leave families feeling on the outside. Home life may feel tense or unpredictable. It can be painful watching other children reach milestones easily\, while your own faces challenges that are hard to explain to others. At times\, there is a deep longing sense to pause and breathe. At other times\, there is a profound joy that is difficult to put into words or share. \nBREATHE was created out of this shared experience. The leaders\, who had not previously met\, came together through their parallel journeys of parenting neurodivergent children. They recognise that their hearts can feel heavy\, that prayers do not always seem to be answered in the way they had hoped for\, and that they\, like their children\, do not always feel that they quite fit in. Together\, they have created a space to encounter God in a new and gentle way. \nBREATHE is a 30-minute online oasis held via Zoom. It offers a simple structure of silence\, music\, liturgy and spoken reflections\, shared alongside others who understand these experiences. During the call\, participants remain muted (with cameras on or off as optional)\, and are guided through a calm and thoughtful time designed to offer gentle encouragement\, draw attention to the love of God\, and most importantly\, provide space to breathe. \nThose who have joined previously\, describe BREATHE as “a sanctuary\, a safe space shared with others who truly understand.“ \nThe vision for BREATHE grew from one leader’s experience of raising autistic children\, who are now young men in their twenties. Being part of church life during their early years was challenging\, and without a strong foundation of faith\, it might have felt impossible to remain. Many families in similar situations have found church life too painful or difficult to continue. \nOver time\, and through many unexpected turns\, including a call to ordained ministry\, the desire to create something supportive for others on this journey continued to grow. The development of online gatherings during Covid made this possible. After praying for a team to share the vision\, the BREATHE NW Community was formed. \nBREATHE takes place on the last Sunday of each month at 8:30 – 9:00pm. Parents and carers are warmly invited to come exactly as they are\, and simply breathe. \nTo join the call on the final Sunday of each month\, please email Rev Rachel Bray and the team on breathecommunitynw@gmail.com  \n

SUMMARY:The Bereavement Journey
DESCRIPTION:The Bereavement Journey is a supportive course for any adult who has experienced bereavement\, whether recently or many years ago. It offers a safe and welcoming space to reflect on your loss alongside others who are navigating similar experiences. \nHosted by trained course leaders\, the programme runs over 7 sessions. Each session includes two short films followed by gentle group discussion\, providing an opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings in a supportive setting. The final session explores faith questions and is entirely optional. \nThroughout the course\, we consider themes such as: \n\n\nUnderstanding loss \n\n\nThe pain of grief \n\n\nHow others respond to our bereavement \n\n\nObstacles on the grief journey \n\n\nCoping with change \n\n\nMoving forward \n\n\nFaith-related questions \n\n\nWe recognise that attending a course like this can feel daunting\, particularly when you are already feeling vulnerable. While we cannot promise to remove the pain of grief\, we do offer a compassionate environment in which you can begin to make sense of your experience\, share with others\, and develop helpful ways of coping. We also acknowledge that every person’s grief is unique. \nCourse dates for 2026:7 June – 13 July28 September – 9 November \nLocation:St Mary’s Church\, WavertreeSouth Drive\, Liverpool\, L15 8JJ \nCost:£5 (to cover the course manual and administration costs) \nFor further information or to register\, please contact:Info@stmw.org.uk/bereavement

SUMMARY:13th Annual Micah Lecture
DESCRIPTION:What does the Lord require of you but to do justice\, and to love kindness\, and to walk humbly with your God?” – Micah 6:8\n\n\n\nWe’re pleased to invite you to the 13th Annual Micah Lecture\, hosted at Liverpool Cathedral: \nBreaking Not Broken: Ableism and the Church\, after Constantine \nThe lecture takes place on Thursday 25th June 2026 \, 7:00–9:00pm (Doors open at 6:45pm) at the Lady Chapel\, Liverpool Cathedral. This year\, we welcome Rev Timothy Goode who is Canon for Congregational Discipleship and Nurture at York Minster. Prior to his move to York\, the whole of his ordained ministry was spent within the Diocese of Southwark\, serving at Croydon Minster in Whyteleafe\, Chaldon and finally at Rector at St Margaret’s Lee. He was made an honorary canon of Southwark Cathedral in 2020 and was Disability Advisor for the Southwark Diocese from 2013-2021. He served as a member of the General Synod from 2015-2023 and in 2022 he led the first full Synod debate on disability. He was a member of the Archbishops’ Council from 2020 to 2023. A theologian\, priest\, and writer\, his work focuses on disability theology\, Christian anthropology\, and the transformation of ecclesial life\, worship\, and heritage. Having lived with disability for over thirty years\, he brings lived experience into sustained theological engagement with ableism in the Church\, particularly as it has been shaped by post-Constantinian assumptions about power\, perfection\, and the idealised body. \nThe Micah Lecture is organised by Liverpool Cathedral and the Diocese of Liverpool on behalf of Micah Liverpool. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Micah Liverpool. \nGet your tickets here.
